Family medicine, formerly family practice,is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages; the specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician, like Dr. Sultana, is often the first person whom a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.
As a Family Physician and medical director currently, I target the community of Brooklyn to promote health and prevent diseases. I am responsible for the comprehensive care of every patient regardless of age, gender, illness, or organ system. With an aim of continuous quality improvement, I coordinate with all other house staff to recognize, integrate and prioritize multiple concerns with the ultimate goal to synthesize solutions. As a patient advocate, I manage chronic conditions while remaining committed to the best quality care. I oversee the collaborative work of other physicians, nurse practitioners, and other health care workers while generating optimism and strong appreciation. During the COVID pandemic, I spanned beyond borders via telemedicine and supported the community relentlessly in my Family Docs Clinic NYC. I am involved in creating positive changes in the office workflow environment through quality improvement projects.
